Cannot Start Accu-Sim 172

Post by KSimmer »

Hi,
> I have just bought the A2A Accu-Sim 172 and I cannot start the engine. Crl E switches off the fuel pump. I have tried changing control codes in settings but it ends up going back to Cntrl E for the fuel pump. I have tried another key setting but it just goes back to Cntrl E. When I open the plane.

> In another C172 (X Plane 11) when the master switch is on and the fuel pump is selected you can hear it working.
> I have installed it in FSX running under windows 10 and a number of people in your forum have not had any problems.
>
PS: I also tried doing a Magneto check using the ignition key but no joy is this feature activated ?

From the manual:
STARTING ENGINE (WITH BATTERY)
1. Throttle — OPEN 1/4 INCH
2. Mixture — IDLE CUTOFF
3. Propeller Area — CLEAR
4. Master Switch — ON
5. Flashing Beacon — ON
NOTE: If engine is warm, omit priming procedure of steps 6, 7, and 8 below.
6. Auxiliary Fuel Pump Switch — ON
7. Mixture — SET to FULL RICH (full forward) until stable fuel flow is indicated
(usually 3 to 5 seconds), then set to IDLE CUTOFF (full aft) position.
8. Auxiliary Fuel Pump — OFF
9. Ignition Switch — START (release when engine starts)
10. Mixture — ADVANCE smoothly to RICH when engine starts.
NOTE: If engine floods (engine has been primed too much), turn off auxiliary fuel pump, set
mixture to idle cutoff, open throttle 1/2 to full, and motor (crank) engine. When engine starts,
set mixture to full rich and close throttle promptly.
11. Oil Pressure — CHECK
Notice the auxiliary fuel pump is turned off before the ignition switch is set to start.

The 172 has a bit of an odd starting procedure. Follow the instructions exactly, but only set the mixture to full rich for 1 to 2 seconds unless it is very cold outside, then return it to idle cutoff. It is very easy to flood this engine. It is better to under-prime the engine then attempt another start than to over-prime it. On a warm engine, do not prime it at all (on the first attempt).
