C172 Startup

For some reason when ever I try to start the engine it just cranks and cranks but never starts. Then the battery dies. Why does this happen. I follow a checklist and everything

There’s a couple of issues to look at. Firstly are you all updated? Secondly is there fuel and oil in your airplane? Is everything ok in the maintenance hangar? Also how long are you priming?
