C172 and Cherokee Aircraft Configurator_P3D issue

Post by Psybear »

Howdy A2A,

Downloaded the 182 and Comanche from my simMarket account and the 172 and Cherokee from A2A account.

Ran the P3Dv4 installers and accepted the default locations as my user\documents folder is on my E:\ drive so Documents\Prepar3Dv4 Add-ons\A2A.

All appeared well except I can't access the C172 Aircraft Configurator_P3D or the Cherokee Aircraft Configurator_P3D from the start menu..."The item 'Cherokee 180 Aircraft Configurator.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly."

Same for 172. Yet the 182 and Comanche are fine. :?

All 4 aircraft appear in P3D4 but I can't seem to find the walk around for any of them either.

Bit perplexed.

I figured, maybe a bad download so I redownloaded the 172 from your store today. Before reinstalling I went to uninstall from Control Panel\Programs and Features but it pops up with, "An error occurred while trying to uninstall A2A C172 Trainer..."

So I then tried to uninstall the Cherokee. Same error message. Then the 182, same error message. Then the Comanche, same error message.

Please advise.

Hello,

where about's did you install the sim?

Just an example of the location of the tools for you on my desktop;
E:\P3D Addons\A2A\A2A\Cessna172\Tools

Hi Lewis,

P3Dv4 is installed on its own drive...F:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\

Mine is a recently installed P3Dv4 (2017-07-29) with no Orbx or other add-on aircraft to gum up the works.
Psybear wrote: Ran the P3Dv4 installers and accepted the default locations as my user\documents folder is on my E:\ drive so Documents\Prepar3Dv4 Add-ons\A2A.
Am aware aircraft are more complicated to get P3Dv4 compatible and will look again as you suggest but this has not been pleasant. I've never had any major issues with A2A software before so I hesitate to say the install blurbs in process are confusing... but they are. :? At least to me.

I will poke around a bit more but at this point I'm inclined to just uninstall and attempt again. But I can't uninstall properly using the SOP.

Thanks and I'll report back,
Clayton

Note: Tried to attach the installation log file but forum won't accept .zip or .txt So ???

Hi Clayton,

I wonder if there's an issue with P3Dv4 installers for one or two of the A2A products not creating a valid Start Menu shortcut for the aircraft configurator. Unfortunately I can't check at the moment as I'm away from home, but one or two previous posts (e.g. this one) have indicated difficulties accessing the configurator via the Start Menu.

However, even if the shortcut is missing or incorrect, the configurator itself should still be present on your system. In the case of the 172 have you tried browsing to...

C:\Users\[UserName]\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\A2A\A2A\Cessna172\Tools

...And opening the "Cessna172 Aircraft Configurator.exe" ? (The exact file name may differ)

Cheers,
Nick

P.S. You can't attach files directly to the forum post but you can always post them on a file sharing site such as DropBox and post a link.

Hello,

so can you not just use the direct application from the folder I presented?

I am not sure I follow what the issue is other than your shortcut not working. A reinstall isn't required as you can just create a new short cut direct from the application?

It sounds like your issue is with the P3Dv4 add-on method rather than our software, which just follows the new P3Dv4 SDK of installing outside the main directory. Please refer to your P3D documentation for how the new processes work.

thanks,
Lewis

Yes Nick,
I sent a shortcut from Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\A2A\A2A\Cessna172\Tools\C172 Aircraft Configurator.exe to my desktop. I then moved said shortcut from desktop to C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\A2A Simulations\Accu-Sim C172 Trainer and deleted the misconfigured one. Now launches from Start menu properly. Same thing for the Cherokee.

Yes Lewis,
The C172, C182, Cherokee and Comanche all appear to work just fine in Sim. However, you might want to take a look at the installer for the 172 and Cherokee. Also, none of the uninstallers for the 4 A2A aircraft I have in Control Panel > Programs and Features. works. So something else is weird in the installer. Bound to be growing pains with the P3Dv4 add-on method for both user and developer.

By the way, I've installed MyTraffic using an .xml link (thanks Poppet) and I should think the long term benefits of this method eventually will make things easier for both user and developer as well.

Thanks again,
Clayton

Hello Clayton,

sorry you mis-understand. You can just access the tools direct and create a new shortcut for your system. The system works great here, I;m afraid no one else in the thousands of downloads have reported this issue since P3Dv4 release so it points to something strange happening on your system. Its a minor thing though and easily overcome using the method I mentioned about accessing the input and aircraft config tools direct.

thanks,

Lewis - I'm not so sure mate; there have been a few reports of people being unable to find/access the aircraft configurator with P3Dv4 installs. I'm away with work for a bit or I'd investigate with my own setup, but It's probably worth checking out before the next Accu-Sim update is released.

Anyway, glad you've got a solution Clayton. :)

Cheers,
Nick

How can I cleanly uninstall the aircrafts 172, 182, Cherokee and Comanche given the fact that the way the Installer implemented itself on my system, the SOP uninstaller doesn't work for any of the afore mentioned aircraft from either Programs and Features or directly from Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\A2A\A2A\Cessna172\Tools\?

You can reinstall over an existing install (as of date of this post as theirs no updates) if the directory is to remain the same.

I have the same problem. Installed the C172 and comanche on a fresh p3d v4 install. With the comanche all is fine, the C172 is missing the configurator exe.

Hello,

please create a new thread so we can better help you, but if the shortcut is missing from your start menu you can just create a new one direct from the application itself.
