Re: Gyro drift

Post by maiochine »

Hi guys, I have been using the A2A C172 for study purposes and I placed my A/C on the tarmac at LIMC Milan Italy Int. airport.
I faced my A/C to have a true heading of 360° while still sitting on the ground with my engine turned on.
I aligned the DGI to the true North as well.

My gyro drift option is enables in FSX realism settings.

I accelerated the time to x128 and waited until one hour have elapsed on the A/C clock.

I noticed that the DGI after 1 hour is now indicating a true heading of 008° considering that the latitude is 45° at the airport so it should be 15xsin45°/hour = around 10° to 11° per hour drift.

I have tried the same experiment with the FSX default C172 and the Carenado C172 both showed on the DGI 349° instead (FSX much more than Carenado) but the thing is that the DGI rotated the other way around.

Why is that happening ? which DGI is simulated in that case ?

Thank you

Mario
