Tech Support help with NAV1 NAV2 Ident

Post by gwplotts »

I've assigned keys to the ident toggle for VOR1 and VOR2, and Marker Beacon, Nav1 and Nav2. When I toggle the ident for the marker beacon, I can toggle it back off. When I toggle either Nav1 or Nav2 VOR Ident, they come on as expected and I can hear the morse ident, but I can't toggle them back off with the keys I've assigned, only by clicking on the appropriate button on the audio control panel above the radios. Any Ideas on fixing this are appreciated.

No responses, so I'm guessing that this cann;t be accomplished?

Hi gwplotts,

I have to admit I saw your original post and thought the next time I'm in FSX I need to look at this. I then promptly forgot about it...sorry.

I checked it out and you are correct. The default key combos are CTRL+1 and CTRL+2 for Nav1 Pull Ident and Nav2 Pull Ident respectively. On the default C-172, these work as a toggle. On the A2A C-172 they only pull out the Pull Ident knobs.

I was able to do what you are looking for using FSUIPC. I added L:Nav1PullIdent=TOGGLE and L:Nav2PullIdent=TOGGLE to my A2A_C172.MCRO in the FSX\Modules directory and the commands showed up in the FSUIPC Key Presses tab pull down list. I then assigned them to a key combo and the worked properly as a toggle.

I am a dabbler in FSUIPC but there are several members here who know lots more than I do about FSUIPC. One of them may chime in with more advice.

For what it's worth, in my RL flying, I don't remember ever having to pull these knobs out. In general, on the birds I flew, these were pulled out and left that way. Control was through the Audio Control Panel. The only reason I can see to use these knobs would be if the aircraft did not have an Audio Control Panel. So, for me, I leave them pulled out all the time, both in the sim and RL.

Hope this helps.

That works, but I guess I wasn't very clear in my request. I want to get the Audio Control panel indicators for Nav 1 and Nav2 to toggle on and off as the marker beacon ident does. i.e. when I press the keyboard shortcut for VOR1 ID (VOR 1iendt (on/off), the light for Navv 1 comes on at the audio control panel, and when I press the same shortcut key, the light doesn't go off. Now, when I do this for the Marker Beacon IDent, it toggles with each key press. Maybe it's just not possible.

Your macro function does pull the ident buttons out and in as a toggle on the radios, but doesn't illuminate the appropriate indicators on the audio control panel. Perhaps these are not interconnected as I thought.

Ah, I see what you mean now. I didn't even know there was a marker beacon ident, but sure enough, CTRL+3 does toggle it on the Audio Control Panel. Perhaps there are L:Vars for the Audio Control Panel Nav1 and Nav2 buttons. Someone may chime in, I'll try to find out when I have a chance.

I haven't had any luck finding Lvars for Nav1 or Nav2 Ident knobs. I am still hoping one of the experts will chime in.

Here you go;

Nav1 button - if (L:kma26Nav1Switch,bool) is zero, toggle default
(>K:RADIO_VOR1_IDENT_DISABLE) event

Nav2 button - if (L:kma26Nav2Switch,bool) is zero, toggle default
(>K:RADIO_VOR2_IDENT_DISABLE) event

thanks,

I have implemented button/switch assignments for those functions using FSUIPC4. I can post my
FSUIPC4.ini section that pertains to those functions, along with mu MCRO file entries later.

I'm a bit swamped with other activities at the moment so just 'standby' :)

OK, here is a quick post showing how I control the NAV1/NAV2 IDENT functions in the C172.

To implement this, the FSUIPC4.ini file must be edited 'by hand' as some switches do
multiple operations when pressed in the 'mode' shown below. The method I use to
assign multiple 'modes' to my Saitek quadrants is part of the entries below but you
can 'strip off' those leading strings to get to the basic switch assignments.

Note also that I have the FSUIPC setting "AutoAssignLetters=Yes" in my "JoyNames"
section of the ini...in this case "D" and "A". This prevents issues when USB controllers
get discoed or moved to new ports.

Code: Select all

A section of my FSUIPC4.ini file. I use a 'user defined' offset, 0x66C0,
to hold my 'mode' number as I have multiple functions assigned to each
switch on my throttle quads. That is the function of the "90=B66C0=6"
part of the entries below...Mode 6 for quad 1 (PD,xx) and quad 2 (PA,xx).
Notice that I have multiple 'actions' assigned to switch PD,15 and PD,17
to implement the "OFF" function with a single activation of those 2 switches.

7!==//------- Control Set 7 -----------------
90=B66C0=6 PD,14,C65837,1 ;// NAV 1 AUDIO AND IDENT ON
91=B66C0=6 PD,15,CM16:53,0 ;// NAV 1 AUDIO OFF
92=B66C0=6 PD,15,CM16:49,0 ;// NAV 1 IDENT  OFF
93=B66C0=6 PD,15,C65832,0 ;// VOR1 IDENT  OFF
94=B66C0=6 PD,16,C65838,1 ;// NAV 2 AUDIO AND IDENT ON
96=B66C0=6 PD,17,CM16:54,0 ;// NAV 2 AUDIO OFF
97=B66C0=6 PD,17,CM16:50,0 ;// NAV 2 IDENT  OFF
98=B66C0=6 PD,17,C65833,0 ;// VOR2 IDENT  OFF
99=B66C0=6 PD,18,C65846,0 ;// ADF AUDIO TOGGLE
100=B66C0=6 PD,19,C66477,0 ;// MKR AUDIO TOGGLE
101=B66C0=6 PA,0,C65844,0 ;//DME TOGGLE

PD14, PD15 etc are my switches on my Saitek dual throttle quads.
"CM16" refers to the MCRO file
The "C65..." entries are the standard FSX control functions via FSUIPC4.
Se the FSUIPC4 PDF's for that info.

The 4 salient entries in my C172 MCRO file:

 [MACROS]
.
.
49=L:Nav1PullIdent=SET
50=L:Nav2PullIdent=SET
.
.
53=L:kma26Nav1Switch=SET
54=L:kma26Nav2Switch=SET

I came up with this coding after experimenting with the operation of the C172 radio stack
and discovering the 'interlocking' nature of the IDENT functions.

Hi Paul,

Although this is an old thread, I figured out a way to implement NAV1/2 buttons only via one button for each and wanted to share with everyone. Moreover, in your code Nav1's pull ident was triggered while NAV1 button was going off. This didn't seem like the behavior when you control via the mouse. Via the mouse, both NAV1 on audio panel and the pull ident button work independently. My FSUIPC config, see below, acts similar to the buttons on the C182 panel when pressed via the mouse. I haven't tried in a flight yet, but i assume the functionality is fine too. Please let me know if you see otherwise.

for example for NAV1:

Code: Select all

A momentary push button on my joystick#0 button#8 (just like the NAV1 button in KMA26 on my C182)
9=P0,8,CM2:74,0
10=CP(F+0,8)0,8,CM2:81,1
11=CP(F-0,8)0,8,CM2:81,0
12=CP(F-0,8)0,8,C65832,0
13=U0,8,CM2:74,0

where the macros file has:
74=L:kma26Nav1SwitchButton=TOGGLE
81=L:kma26Nav1Switch=SET
Line 8 and 13 are for the button animation and the sound;
Line 10 is for setting it on
line 11 and 12 are for setting it off. if I remove line 12, It didn't turn off while pull ident was disable. this was the trick i discovered here.

This was something I couldn't find anywhere, therefore i wanted to share with all. I hope this helps someone

cheers,
duke

Hi folks,

Sorry to drag an old thread up.
But this is exactly the problem which I am having.
Thanks so much for the above information. It helps. It seems I was on the right tracks but wasn't running multiple cmds together.

I'm a bit new to all this, but I know about lvars and fsuipc (a bit) and can code a bit, in VB, C and MATLAB - just so you don't think you're dealing with a complete novice at programming.

So from what I had read above I need to change the 3 things simultaneously. I can run a single lvar and other things, but I don't know how to do múltiples.
Could someone advise how i get to the part where you specify to run three simultaneously please?

Currently I'm just using a keyboard to run it, to get it turn off.
Once that works I'll then move back up to physical switches and. But I want to move in babysteps.
Step1: get it to turn off.

I've looked in the fsuipc5.ini folder and I see this
[Keys]
14=115,11,M1:4,0 -{ctl+shft+F4: Press=Macro 1Cessna172: L:kma26Nav1Switch set }-
15=115,11,M1:5,0 -{ctl+shft+F4: Press=Macro 1Cessna172: L:Nav1PullIdent set }-
16=115,11,C65832,0

[MacroFiles]
1=1Cessna172

[LuaFiles]
1=log lvars

[Profile.Cessna172]
1=C172R F-GOAP
and in the 172
[macros]
4=L:kma26Nav1Switch=SET
5=L:Nav1PullIdent=SET
It does flash, off instantaneously, but comes back on.

I got it to turn off once, now its not working again?!...

16=115,11,C65832,0 << ERROR 24! Line ignored >>

This appears. any idea what I've done?

I tried to tweek what you had there
91=B66C0=6 PD,15,CM16:53,0 ;// NAV 1 AUDIO OFF
92=B66C0=6 PD,15,CM16:49,0 ;// NAV 1 IDENT OFF
93=B66C0=6 PD,15 ,C65832 ,0 ;// VOR1 IDENT OFF
I thought this matched up okay, but not sure

It seems to be DEVICE,SWITCH, COMMAND, STATUS,
right?

Hi Rich,

Have you tried the method proposed above by 'dukedukie'? It seems to work perfectly. :)

I've posted a slightly edited version which should be easier to understand with the new(ish) FSUIPC comments -{this bit}- included:

Code: Select all

[Buttons.A2A C172R]
0=P0,11,CM1:35,1 	-{Macro 1_A2A_LVARS: L:kma26Nav1SwitchButton set}-
1=U0,11,CM1:35,0 	-{Macro 1_A2A_LVARS: L:kma26Nav1SwitchButton set}-
2=CP(F+0,11)0,11,CM1:36,1 	-{Macro 1_A2A_LVARS: L:kma26Nav1Switch set}-
3=CP(F-0,11)0,11,CM1:36,0 	-{Macro 1_A2A_LVARS: L:kma26Nav1Switch set}-
4=CP(F-0,11)0,11,C65832,0 	-{RADIO_VOR1_IDENT_DISABLE}-
In this case we are using button 11 of joystick 0 and the two relevant lines in the macro are:

Code: Select all

35=L:kma26Nav1SwitchButton=SET
36=L:kma26Nav1Switch=SET
