Alternate Air ?

Post by altack »

Hi Guys,

just a question about the alternante air (not the static alternate source).
In a real C-172R I had the opportubity to fly a few times there was an "alternate air" knob wich opened an alternate air intake for the engine (in case of icing I believe). This particular function was tested during the engine runup.
Is it something relevant to be included in the A2A C172 trainer ?

Thank you in advance for your inputs,
Francois

Isn't the A2A 172 fuel injected?

It is metioned in the manual that it features a spring-loaded alternate air door, which opens automatically if the filter gets blocked. So yes, it has it, but it cannot be manually controlled.
Kind regards, Matthias

This knob pulls out and operates a valve that changes the static air source from the exterior port on the side of the aircraft to a port inside the aircraft.

there is a procedure for opening this valve that requires certain vents to be opened and others closed to reduce the error introduced by using the interior static air port.

Static air pressure is used by your airspeed indicator, altimeter and vertical speed indicator.

A blockage of the exterior port due to ice, water (happened to me), insects, tape or some other foreign object will render these instruments useless.
