Re: GPS 295 bright day map
What do you mean by "black" and "bright"? The color of the background?

I think he means the terrain.
Re: GPS 295 bright day map
Yes, Terrain!!! but in the original Manual from the GPS 295 is the feature available! look in the original manual:

it is a wrong key in the A2A GPS 295, normally there is the menu key but in A2A GPS 295 is a CRSR key.
sry for my bad english.

Re: GPS 295 bright day map
This is not original GPSMAP 295 simulation (nor GNS400 is). This is FS default GPS with some small fixes.
There are 3rd party GPS units on the market which simulate the real thing pretty well. Our C172 fully supports them.

Re: GPS 295 bright day map
here is how you can have terrain map ON by default. this is for 295 and 400
Open the A2A 172 "panel" folder.
Inside fin a folder called: "gps"
now open the GPS folder.
Inside find the file, called "gps_500.xml"
Make a copy of this file and name the copy "gps_500_original.xml". This way you have a copy of the file in case you mess up.
Ok now open the file called "gps_500.xml" with notepad.
Use menu > Edit and search for: <DetailLayerTerrain>(@g:setup_ColorTerrain) 0 ==
now change the 0 to a 1 so that this line read as follows.
<DetailLayerTerrain>(@g:setup_ColorTerrain) 1 == if{ 1 } els{ 2 }</DetailLayerTerrain>
SAVE and restart FSX.
enjoy color map ON by default.
Just remember with 295 there is not a button to go back to black and blue screen.
In the 400 you have a "TERR" button to chnage between the two.
OR GRAB THE ALREADY CHANGED FILE HERE
A new upload has been made now also sporting terrain Shadowing:
