Install problems

Post by JPanik22 »

I recently bought the trainer 172 but have had issues with it. Never worked. I installed it as per the instructions and moved the files into my steam folder. The plane showed up but would not start up. Cockpit view showed no power. Out side view sounded like it was running but the prop was not moving. I could get it to move w/o the prop spinning. EZDOC camera did not work with plane. I also have SPAD.Next running. Can I install directly into Steam? Will it work in Steam? Any help appreciated

Hello,

you mention installed and then moving files?

What files did you move I don't understand why you would move files and not just run the installer?

thanks,

Explain and clarify if you will?

Do you have BOTH FSX and FSX Steam on the same hard drive?
Have you downloaded the latest installer for the 172 with a Steam install option?

If run correctly from a correct fresh installer, there is no need to `move` any files whatsoever, the installer give you the option for installation and you choose which you want.
Sounds like you are using an old installer without the Steam option.

Simple enough to fix that, download the installer again from your account. Then run it.

Then download and install the current updater from here in the forum.

Job done!

If you have both disc and steam edition installed it can work but it can be a bit of a pain in the bum to get sorted and theres a lot more fiddling involved to install things.

If you can give us some more information on the exact nature of your system and setup we can better help you.

the system I have is old
Dell xps 420
intel 2 quad q9400, 64 bit windows 8, 8gb ram, NVidia 6200 512 mb ddr2

I installed Steam thinking it would do it's thing if FSX box needed to be removed. Not sure if that happened. How do I tell?
Right now my system hardware looks like this
Saitek.. multi panel, radio panel, switch panel, yoke, rudders, trim wheel
CH quad throttle ( I have Saitek throttle but not installed)

Running .....FSX Steam ( to open FSX se I have to open steam account then click "play") it works but messy
EZ Doc 2.0, SPAD(latest version and PAID)

I'm Fairly new to this level of simming. Been watching videos on Youtube and want to move to the next levels. I'm OK with computers but not great.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

FSX and FSX Steam edition are separate you will need to ideally manually remove using uninstall and then deletion of all FSX files and then a registry clean prior to installing the steam edition.

eg;
http://c-aviation.net/clean-reinstall-of-fsx/

If you wish to keep both installed then simply during the install select the relevant path to your FSX:Steam Edition installation.
