C172 Trainer (P3D) Academic Download limit
C172 Trainer (P3D) Academic Download limit
Is there a reason why there's a download limit for this aircraft? I'm a software developer and a computer hobbyist. I'm always playing around with new operating systems/languages and hence am constantly repartitioning and reformatting my hard drives. And so I'm reinstalling all my software quite often...
Re: C172 Trainer (P3D) Academic Download limit
I would recommend creating a backup of your downloaded software. I'll let A2A comment on the limit, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is a measure to protect against piracy.

That was kinda my thinking. But if I wanted to pirate I would be happy with 1 download allotment which I would then back up, as you say, and distribute from there to the entire world.Oracle427 wrote:I would recommend creating a backup of your downloaded software. I'm not the only one that has this opinion. John C. Dvorak of PC Magazine feels the same way. And that is that most anti-piracy mechanisms do nothing against piracy but only inconvenience the paying customer.

When I download a program, I place a copy in a safe place. Simple.

The same can be said about many things in life... That said, I am of the opinion (and it is only my opinion) that you are inconveniencing yourself by having to fish downloads out from a variety of locations rather than going to a local repository that you organize and control.
Requesting another set of downloads just requires sending a PM with your order details to a member of the A2A crew such as Lewis. They'll usually get you reset within a day or so.

Re: C172 Trainer (P3D) Academic Download limit
I understand where A2A are coming from. And I see your point. I do have a version saved on my cloud backup after I noticed there's a download limit. I was worried about not being able to get updates (if there are any) and I did not know A2A are willing to reset my limit if need be. So thanks for the clarification.Oracle427 wrote:The same can be said about many things in life... Any issues just give us a yell but as always the software is software the storage is another thing. We would always recommend a backup as the software is not cloud based so should be backed up as normal.
thanks,
Lewis
