172 vs 182 or Piper 250

Post by murrayj »

Which of the 2 simulations Cessna 172 or 182 would give the most realistic and relevant experience for an aspiring young pilot. My son seems fixed on the Comanche 250 but I have suggested the 172 or 182 to him. Could you perhaps give some advice before I purchase by explaining the functionality differences between the 3 models.

The Cessna 172 or the Piper Cherokee are the most likely aircraft a student would learn to fly in. Both are excellent representations of the real aircraft.

I would recommend the Cherokee or the Cessna 172. Ask him if he likes a low or high wing, and let that be the decision.

If I might add my two cents. I would go with either the C172 or the Cherokee also. They are less complex to fly then the C182 and the Comanche. By that of course I don't mean the depth of the simulation but their real work counterparts. The Comanche and the C182 have both constant speed propellers which increase the workload on the pilot. And the Comanche has retractable gear which of course makes it faster and look so much sleeker in flight but it adds more to the workload.

The C172 and the Cherokee both are real world trainers that are capable of all the things you need when you want to learn flying. So that's what I would get. And then it just comes down to personal preference like Scott said.

Take care

If you have a rough idea of what aircraft he might learn it, its either high or low wing so that'd help the decision a lot.

thanks,
