GTN750 in the 172

Post by gpbarth »

Well, I DID search somewhat through the forums, but still can't find the answer. I recent bought and installed the Garmin GTN750, and installed it in the RealAir Turbine Duke, so I think it is working properly. I then went to the GTN config tool, and selected the A2A 172 and thought I told it to install the panel in the plane. Went and opened up FSX and the 172, and the panel wasn't there. Went to the Instrument Panel views and opened the Mini-Controls and cycled through the GPS choices - No GPS, GPS Map 295, GNS 400...but no GTN750. I DID find two choices further down the Instrument Panel views, both for the 750, but all they do is open up a 2-D floating panel...there is nothing mounted in the actual panel replacing the original stack.

SO - do I have to edit the panel.cfg manually to put it there, or is there a way to have the Mini-control GPS box do it? I'm also going to buy the Comanche in a few days, so this question is also pertinent to that aircraft, I think. And if I have stupidly overlooked the obvious, please forgive me...I'm getting old and I forget a lot.

Never mind! I DID overlook the obvious, and found the thread about the menu item in the A2A menu. Mea culpa! Now to fly my 172 around the patch, and get ready for the Comanche!

In the A2A folder in FSX there's a tool folder. Inside that is your key configurator and and another tool (the name escapes me) that allows you to make adjustments to the 172. Open it, and inside you'll find you can select your GTN from there. After closing the utility, you're done, as the plane should load with the GTN ready to go.

Well, I found the correct configuration control by going to my Windows Main menu, clicking on the A2A folder, clicking on the 172 folder and then the Config choice. I thought I'd have to click on the Minicontroller in FSX, but when I launched my 172, the GTN750 was right there waiting for me.

The a2a configuration tool does it all for you. I splurged and got the gtn750 and gtn650, however when both are installed my frames take a dive. So I keep the 650 in the cherokee and c172 and use the gtn 750 in the c182 and comanche. I like the chart feature of the gtn750 and it is very simple to swap out the 650 and 750 depending on what I plan to do. Can't wait for next update to put a gtn650 in the civ mustang.

May I ask what benefits having both in one plane would be?

Cheers...
