Well, basically you get a bit more power when ROP by that amount, however, quite a bit cooler (and maybe cleaner) engine and better efficiency if LOP.

Yes that's a very nice diagram. Explains a lot.

I was flying yesterday morning, and I was LOP, but I felt the RPM was moving a bit. A little unstable. Too lean, I presume, but when I slightly enriched the temps shot up a lot. I'm not comfortable yet with this LOP operation. I don't do it in real life, in my older 172, so it's all new to me.

What I do is I lean till the engine starts to run rough and then I richen one to two turns in and it smooths out but year I saw my EGT's at one point 1460

I just use the simplest possible economy lean: lean as far as you can get while keeping it smooth. :) It is very simple in the sim where the engine roughness is somewhat 'scripted' in Accusim too; as far as I've studied, in typical real world fuel distribution systems the less-than-smooth running gets progressively worse from being noticeable non-issue to real roughness; it depends subjectively on what is acceptable, not being a percent too lean of some borderline of roughness.

if it's silky smooth, you most likely enrichened right back to peak EGT. Lean it back out. In the 172 I shoot for two bars (roughly 50 degrees LOP). Stop cheating by using the tool tips. The real 172 doesn't read numbers, only degrees of change. :-)

See the graph I posted above as to why your EGTs are so high. You aren't past LOP yet.
