Does the GNS 400 exist IRL?

Post by BabtridgeMcJoystick »

Hello

I am trying to find an IRL manual for the GNS 400, and keep coming up empty. I found the GPS 400, but its only got 5 buttons along the bottom where the GNS has 6. There are GNS 400W and GNS 420W etc, but they aren't right either.

I have never used GPS in flight sims before and want to start studying it in the A2A C172 (I am in love with this plane :) ).

I found all the Bendix King ones, so I am assuming the GNS 400 is based on a real world unit? If not, is there some way I can learn to use it?

Thanks!

Hello,

if using the default options and not a third party option you will want to simply use your FSX learning center, manuals etc to learn how to use the default GPS.

thanks,

the GNS400 is yes, but the default GPS400 is quite far from a fully functional simulation, this is why so many have chosen the third party options.

Hello

Ok I do appreciate you helping, but I am confused now. I am running Prepar3D, and bought the C172 package from your website. I didn't add any 3rd party avionics. In my C172, I have not changed any avionics settings, and I see this:

Is that what I should be seeing? (as opposed to the GPS 400?) If the GNS400 is a real unit, I want to find the real world manual to learn it, as opposed to the generic FSX GPS. The problem is neither the internet nor Garmin themselves seem to have heard of a "GNS 400", hence the question.

Thanks again

It most definitely does,m but I haven't come across one. It looks extremely similar to the 430 I use. Here is a link to a manual. http://www.manualslib.com/manual/256156 ... tml#manual

Based on the manual, the differences between the 400 and higher number units are the integration of radios.

Yes the 400 is a real unit but as noted you will want to use the FSX help to learn how to use as it is the default unit.
