At A2A´s 172R there is no separate baggage compartment simulated. I always used baggage area #1 for my w&b calculations with the A2A 172R, is that correct?

And how to change the basic empty weight in that online calculator? The given 1684.06lbs does not fit with our 1639lbs empty weight of the A2A product!

Yes, baggage area 1. Regarding the empty weight, just deduct 50lbs from the final calculation.

Scott, I've got a question, in the aircraft cfg file it shows the max weight as 2550 instead of 2450. Why? It also shows a empty weight of 1650. Again Why?

I know you said Scott... however, allow me take a shot at this.

As far as the aircraft.cfg: you essentially have "two airplanes in one" with this A2A Trainer. Basically, you change to the "S" prop and you get an increase of 100lbs for max weights (Normal Category) over the "R". Cessna came out with a kit that allows certain serial numbers of the "R" to be modified with this "S" prop. Part of the kit is new Wt & Bal info (which, for one, shows the change in Max Weight).

Max Wt for the C172R = 2450lbs
Max Wt for the C172S = 2550lbs (or modified "R"... however you wish to view it)

I'd imagine for our (FSX) purposes, A2A considered it expedient just to have the one cfg, because if you did have two, switching props in the Shop, with a corresponding change in GW, would require a reload of the plane (no?).

The 1639lb figure I found as a "general" Basic Empty Weight from an "R" manual (I saw an example slightly different for the "S"). This is not going to be the "as equipped from the factory" figure; for that you will need to go the specific POH for that plane -- a.k.a. the Airplane Flight Manual.

"As delivered" the A2A C172 appears to have a Basic Empty Weight of 1665lbs. I obtained this figure from the Shop, emptying fuel, using full oil and setting the pilot to 100lbs (so you obviously subtract out this 100lb tare weight). Oil is close to 2 lbs per quart.

So for our (simulated) purposes, the link Scott has provided (for a C172S) will work quite nicely. The Basic Empty Weight is very close. The important thing to remember (as Scott said) when using the link he provided, is to remember for the "R", your GW is 2450lbs.

For you techno-dweebs (like me)... yeah, there appears to be a slight change in the front slope of the Wt & Bal Envelope between the "R" and the "S"... certainly "not a factor" for our simulation purposes.

The big thing i.e. the takeaway from all this... what's important is that you understand how to calculate Weight & Balance, and how extremely important it is that you comply with those numbers when flying RW. You can ruin a perfectly good day by not complying with the Weight and / or the C.G. limitations.

You also have to understand, each and every airplane is different. I don't care if I was at a flight school with a hundred "identical" C172 "S" models... for every plane I step in, I will have done a Wt & Bal. calc using the numbers for that specific plane.

Just to clarify: I guess the "Oil" cell requires input in pounds, not quarts. So, judging from this specification, 8 quarts of oil = 2 US gal = 14.88 pounds. Can you confirm?
