A2A C172, VATSIM VFR Videos

Post by Mantock »

Hi All,

As I did with the A2A B377,
I am producing a line of videos on this beautiful new A2A aircraft,
mostly concentrating on VFR flight on the VATSIM servers.
But also incorporating all the A2A details at the same time, engine management, pre-flight checks. the lot.

Enjoy!

Nice work. As I was cruising along in my 172 this afternoon, the thought crossed my mind a few times to get back to online flying world, either VATSIM or PilotEdge.

I have great memories of a few years ago when I was active on VATSIM.

Looking forward to your other videos.

Cool :) I stick to the UK most of the time but I have a relative who works out in Van Nuys airport in Cali so I might make it over there in VATSIM to do some flights some time.

Did a flight yesterday from Shoreham to Gatwick using the A2A C172, it was a bit of a baptism by fire!!

What I learnt was: PREPARATION is the key to success!!!

AND- ALWAYS remember to file a flight plan

will post a link here when its up

Thanks Scott!

Hi Guys, my first recorded VATSIM flight in the new A2A C172. A simple short hop from Shoreham, (CIX VFR Club homebase) to Gatwick.
(once it finishes processing on youtube)

That's great mate, really enjoyed your last cross country video! I did EGKK- EGKA online just a few days ago, I find it easier to leave a busy airspace than entering it.

CIX all the way! :D

My most recent video,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV0Il5NE ... e=youtu.be

A flight from Manchester to East Midlands with both Approach controllers on at each airport. Comes in at just over an hour with over 70 ATC transmissions.

Another short Video,

http://imageshack.us/a/img546/1240/o4ld.jpg

A quick(er) flyin to East Midlands on request of the TWR controller at the time, Jack Baker who had asked me to fly over and give him some traffic while he was having his ATC exam :)

A few things here, ATC lesson of the day, always know what you want to say before you start yapping on a live channel!! :)

Hi Mantok,

well done videos, amazing. :)

I want to add some things to get an additional overview about the online flying platforms. The main two free platforms should be VATSIM or IVAO where i go flying.
According to the rules of each platform, pilots ans ATC should have a basic level of knowlage prior connecting online. All informations you will find at their homepages.
Normally communications are only between ATC controllers ans pilots according to the real aviation. Some differences at some parts have to be done due to no FIR coverages etc.voice radio
Depending on the expierience of ATC controllers and pilots the professionalism in voice radio and pilots/ATC skills it can even be the same as in real life. There are also department training sessions available for less expierienced users. I advice to use it before connecting.

@Mantok

I only saw the "Video 1" from your initial post. I want to give you some general suggestions for the C172R if you want to use it to improve yourself. Because you spent money for an accusim addon and it would be very sad not to use the quality and what accusim delivers to you

- Complete preflight check, could be important, also setup of switches and units
- It is unfavourable to swich on all avionics equipment prior engine start (batt deflate and voltage spikes can cause damage or electr overheat)
- Switch only necessary electrical systems to on position prior startup, after alternator engage and proper volts/amps switch on consumers
- As an real world "aircraft meintenance certifying staff" my heart is bleeding pushing full throttle to an cold engine after startup..outch :?
- Watch temperatures and pressures
- Lean mixture on ground
..
..

Accusim is fun when you use all the details, i advise everyone to use them

Kind regards

Nico

Great video again, I am enjoying this series immensely as not just for featuring our aircraft but also watching you take your baby steps on VATSIM, and then in true British lad style get it all wrong and just blag it hehe

Seriously though, its awesome because I think it takes a lot of the worry and nervousness that one gets when normally looking into the ultra real scary VATSIM world.

Thanks for your encouragement guys!

Nico081,
Yes, the mistakes I am making in the earlier vids I am hoping to correct in later videos, so you will (hopefully) see a gradual progression of learning through the videos.
Thanks for your suggestions ;)

And Lewis,
That's exactly why I am making these videos, :)
I found it a big step to get connected, and it took alot of pushing myself to do all this because I felt awkward and scared to just jump in and start making mistakes. But the best learning comes from learning from mistakes. I am hoping to continually use your A2A bird with more and more TLC, treating it as it should be treated, and flying in VATSIM as one should fly in real life. That is the end goal :P

I am starting third year in Uni so I will be awfully busy, not as much volume coming through my channel in the next twelve weeks, but hopefully quality, not quantity from now on.
