One of the problems with landscape colors no matter where is the effect full sunlight has on it, especially when you draw from photos. Colors are usually very desaturated as you would expect and many times it seems better to use a back lite shot for your base. One of the issues with the terrain engine is the oddities with or lack of landscape lighting. An overcast sky has no effect on the lighting. There is an effect as you approach dusk and dawn so TOD has some effect but for some reason there are issues with the effect on the dither maps. I recall someone posting some shots from BOB1 that seemed to show this better and I wonder if we might see better terrain lighting again? I know that shadows have found their way back but will the clouds and TOD have any baring on this? I'd also be great to get some sort of haze.

Im just glad we got the fartiles fixed so that folks can choose. There is much better consistency in the original textures and if they were a bit higher resolution they would be great. However upping the resolution is not always that beneficial as you'd have better results with more colors in your pallete and lower resolution. 32 bit/channel graphics is where the future should lie, ofcourse they like larger images come at a size cost.

Does this terrain replace the 2d tree lines when you fly on the deck?

No. The treelines will still be the stock ones.
Some men have modified the treeline layouts. This is not easy yet, and I know not how to do it.
Pelican72's mod adds treelines into his Landscap2 textures,
but the stock (stick up) treelines will remain the same.
As well as the BLENDMAP treeline underlayer.

Even the Rowan mappers and terrain artists, never tried to recreate every treeline in Esta Anglia.

Personally, I do not have a problem with this, as I am not
an absolute perfectionist.
My father was, and I think that's why he died young.

Great graphics. I believe the landscape files are RAR files. Where can I download a RAR tool to open it?

Not that I've noticed. I use Celinsky's with Stickman's matching far tiles.
Pelican's are also very nicely done - spoilt for choice. :D

I have not noticed a fps drop, either, and I am using a one year old SONY, and an old ATI gfx card. Defitinately not cutting edge gaming hardware.

I like this mod seeing them pictures, but will it affect my fps? And could you please post some more screenshots about it?

Thank you!

And good job, Pelican & Stickman!

Stickman or one of the other Devs can probably chime in here and correct me if I am wrong:

AFAIK these type of terrain texture mods should have no adverse effect on FPS compared to using the stock terrains. that would only happen if the terrain modder used much higher resolution textures than the stock ones. AFAIK that can not be done as of yet. Accordingly, all that is being done is replacement of the existing stock terrain textures with different textures of the same size so the FPS should be the same either with the stock or modded terrains.

reflected,

There is no fps drop using them that I see, or that others reported.
I have no other screenshots, right now. Sorry.

----------

SeaVee, the Landmap2 terrain files can be made with larger resolutions.
The only restriction for these files is that they must be in .dds format.

Hi Guys

Could I ask for some help in setting up these amazing mods in my BOBII. I am not particularly computerate
I have the link to Pelican's file downloads - there are versions 1,2 and 3 and other downloads as well about textures, terrain and others. Does version 3 download everything or do you have to download each item separately? Some people seem to have modified them themselves - are those now modded in the downloads from Peilcan's files? There are also comments about .exe files being available to put them into your BOBII - have they been produced? If not how do I go about doing that?
I am very sorry if all of these instructions do appear in another post somewhere - but I could not find them. There is such a wealth of information on this site that it is overwhelming to the newcomer (I mean that in a very very good way). The amount of free time and energy that people devote to this is staggering.

Pelican ces programmes sont formidables - merci beaucoup

CA

Charlie Alpha,

You have been digging deep... back into BoBII year 2007.

Pelican (the only France man that has ever dared to modify the English terrain)
made a nice Cliffs of Dover - cliffs - texture, that this (admittedly a stupid American) prefers to what my UK cousins have made.
I adopted Pelican's cliffs, made a minor correction (fallen rocks at the bottom) to suit mine own improper and perverted New World tastes, and offered Pelican's Cliff mod as PeliStick Cliff:

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11652#p108050

I am going to make this stock issue for v2.12. Unless a "proper" Englishman can make a better one.

----------

Any other mods from year 2007, is probably out of date, and I would not use them. If they can still be found.
The basic underlying terrain set in Landmap2 folder, should not be changed.
Too much work has been done upon the the v2.11 terrain layouts since.
All of the files in the Landmap2 folder can be modified to make the English country to look greener, tho.
Or into total winter colors! :P
I prefer a green green grass of July or August England, if there was any rain? not the muddy browns of September.

--------------

Perhaps this PeliStick mod is what some American or French Viet Nam veterans
might say is.. Beau Coup Dien-Cai-Dao, or Beaucoup Dinky Doa!
(half French & half Viet) for Very Much Crazy!

My 1st (Natalie) and 2nd (Mai) grand-daughters are partially English, Frank, Scottish, German, Filipino, Chinese, - Viet and Chinese.
I like a global family, although global economics are nasty for US workers.
Not one of my children are slaves to a preacher or a stinking church.
I have not made them wealthy, but taught them good, to be free thinkers.
