Yes, the prestigious BoB few and all the rest that fought "The Good War" are dying at an alarming rate.
May they all rest peace,,,
What did you learn in school today, dear little boy of mine?
What did you learn in school today, dear little boy of mine?
I learned that war is not so bad
I learned about the great ones we had had
We fought in Germany and in France
And I am someday to get my chance
That's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school.

Indeed!
In the mid 60's, Vietnam was a "Good War",,,,or so a lot of early baby boomers believed.
Little did we know,,,,,,,

Nothing unusual there: the young and naive usually think their war is the good one.hellcat44 wrote:Indeed!

Not sure I understand what Paxton got wrong in his song. It is a crtitique of the notion that war is good. Seems spot on to me.

That was how I read it. But then,,,I always defer to the English when it comes to interpreting the language.

Yes, I got a chuckle out of it too. But it still doesn't explain the comment by speedy70.filtonboy wrote:That was how I read it. But then,,,I always defer to the English when it comes to interpreting the language.[

Different people interpret songs in different ways, especially if you haven't heard the song the bare text on a page can convey a different message.
For example 'Born in the U.S.A.' by Springsteen isn't the ode to patriotism many think it is.
Also "Every step you take I'll be watching you" by the Police is often played at weddings but it is not a love song but a sinister song about stalking.
