Campaign 2.14 beta

Post by two27 »

Beta 2.14 - Release Notes for c04a

Fixed bug in randomization of pilot skills in 3D. Pressing “T” while in 3D will display the pilot skill labels.

Fixed bug with Particle Density setting that could result in crash if a saved game was loaded that had a saved value out of range.

New code to preserve escort type when player makes changes to escort counts and assignments. LW Task dialog much more reliable when modifying escorts.

RAF AI will now respond with more squadrons to raids, if the squadrons are available and on operational fields.

LW Gruppen can now fly more than once per day, based on date.
1x per day, 10 – 31 July
2x per day, 1 – 12 August
3x per day, 13 August – end of campaign

Recalculated LW fatigue to compensate for potential for more sorties within a day.

Re-purposed two of the Review reports. Claims and Assets for RAF are now Summary and Tally. Claims and Targets for LW are now Summary and Tally. These update at the end of each day.

RAF
Review – Assets is now Review - Tally
Review – Claims is now Review – Summary

LW
Review – Targets is now Review – Tally
Review – Claims is now Review – Summary

Tally dialog shows total kills and losses, max kills and losses, and a 10-day rolling history of kills and losses.

Summary dialog provides long-term campaign data for easy comparison and assessment. I've included the types of stats I want to see.

Destroyed / New / +/-: These entries provide a direct display of net casualties by AC type.

RAF Damaged (upper right entries): When RAF fields become damaged, AC repair suffers. Damaged is the number of damaged AC of the type currently awaiting repair. % is the percentage of the AC force awaiting repair.

Fighter Losses: A simple ratio comparing first-line fighter losses. A value greater than 1.00 is always in the player's favor. A value < 1.00 means the player is losing fighters faster than the enemy.

Updated language files to support the redesigned Review dialogs.

New 2D combat code.

Advantage now possible for either sides during first engagement between an RAF squadron and its target LW Staffel. Advantage is exclusive to one side or the other (not both sides at same time). This can also be called a bounce.

Is advantage the same as surprise? Not really. Surprise is an example of advantage, but it is possible to have an advantage without surprise. Suppose an RAF squadron is above a 109 Gruppe. If the RAF squadron is spotted by the 109s, it has lost surprise but still has an advantage.

2D combat now includes,
- LW detached/high escorts have a greater chance to achieve advantage, than to be bounced by the RAF.
- RAF units have a greater chance to achieve advantage over LW attached/close escorts.
- General percent chances to hit an enemy are based on AC type. 109s, Spitfires, and Hurricanes have the best chance to hit, followed by 110s, bombers, and finally Stukas.
- Damage resulting from a hit takes AC type into account. Generally Spitfires are the most durable of the first-line fighters, followed by Hurricanes, then 109s. Of course 109 survivability is also lower due to fighting further from LW bases, while RAF fighters can get down much more often when severely damaged.
- Bombers now shoot back.

The 2D combat code will need extensive testing. When testing 2D combat, never frag into 3D as the 3D will skew the testing results. The main thing to look for is the rate at which AC are hit.

The c04a_213.zip executable file and the new language files will NOT work with old saved games.

Fixed a couple of problems with c04a.
- LW was getting too many write-offs.
- Bomber losses were too high, due to detached escorts not intervening in enough instances.

Updated test .exe c04b_213.7z: http://www.mediafire.com/file/i50bq6v96 ... 04b_213.7z

Testing this from the RAF side gives lopsided results because the LW raid planning AI is so poor. Testing from LW side gives a much better view of the new code in action.

I am aware that the RAF AI is still not intercepting unescorted bombers as heavily as it should. This will be addressed when the LW AI is redone.

If you want to roll back the 2D combat changes, while retaining the new review reports Tally and Summary, use c04_213.
