Does ANYONE still fly this sim?

Post by Fulzgold »

Hello,
I am 51yrs old and have just recently purchased the Battle os britain 2 wings of victory flight simulator PC game.
I have flown Hitech creations aces high since 1995 and flew for until 2006. Looking for anyone that still flys this sim as there seems to be little to no information pertaining to this flight sim.
Thanks, Fulzgold

Yes, folks do.
There are also a few of us who make it better. Daily when we can. We are about to release our next upgrade, v2.13.

Note. BoBII will not work with Windows versions later than Win 7.

That is good news. Was planning on installing BOB2 this weekend. Look forward to the next upgrade. Thanks.

Done with everything for v2.13. Just need to revise the manual and the Help files, as a lot of things have changed very much better for the Campaign.

I am today, finishing writing up the v2.13 Release notes. A lot of changes, so the notes are many and long.

That's really good news stickman. I know you put a lot of effort in and i think it is appreciated despite the stiff competition from other PC-based flight-sim-type games.
I've been flying and fighting on other fronts (we don't need to mention which russian devs...woops - for Malta map mostly) for the last few years and have been twitching to get back to BOB2 which i flew previously for several years. I miss the historically accurate events and numbers of A/C in the sky at anyone time. If i flew Luft in a campaign i used to introduce random elements with dice throws which would mean i could fly all the A/C over the course of a campaign, sometimes taking off from base and sometimes just going straight into the action. I used to make a log of each days action (and wished BDG could output pilots logs (written by hand after each sortie) to a txt file)...so much variety. So yeah....i'll wait until the official 2.13 patch comes out now and look forward to not having to adjust my escorting waypoints etc.
Thanks again to all of you guys.

LANcaster,

The old broken (and prejudicial) LW escort failure to rendezvous with bombers ALWAYS, has been fixed! :D
It was an easy code fix by our coder two27. Just adjust the take off times for bombers versus the forward based fighter escorts to reach each other. Duh!
Coded in is 5% failure rate that the fighters faak up and do not take off at the right time that Fleet Staff orders.

My long and detailed.. testing shows me a 8% failure rate of proper fighter escort to bomber rendezvous.
OK. Now when I when I order a Raid, I can now be pretty much assured that everyone will follow orders!

No longer have to fiddle and tinker around jiggering Way Points around to make this work, and have units follow Staff orders.

--------------

We are making a new Manual, which has not been updated since v2.11, to explain all the realistic changes that we made.
Release.. when that is done.

There is a good feeling when you draw a tight bow string back, arrow nocked,
hold it for awhile.. arm hurting... goona hit?
Yeah. And let it fly!

Hi new to this sim and very interested in it (i am over 50 played to il2 but very interested in bobii)
i tried in the past but my old pc had problems, now i have a new one and sure will not have performance problems (nvidia gpu)

i read the thread about 2.13 version ... but I still have one question: is the following the right sequence ?
1) Bob2 WOV from the disc
2) v2.12 (on top of 1)
3) v2.13 + language file (on top of v2.12)
4) terrain (on top of v2.13)

and about multiskin ? have all the ctd problems been solved ? because if there are still ctd related to that i can live without it .... so please tell me if i can install it or is better to skip it

Just recently bought BOB2 from A2A website. If there is an update, where do I find it? Also is there a separate website for BOB or is all support and news done through the forum?

Thanks in advance.

Hi SeaMount:

The only problems we have at the moment are
1) the sim will not run on win8/8.1; and reports
with win10 are spotty - some success, but
some crashes when alt-x ing out of the 3D
(which makes campaign play near impossible).

2) patch levels over 2.10 are increasingly too
large for 32 bit machines to run with normal
2GB RAM limit; in win7 between the sim and
background processes the load for a big mission
goes well over 2GB in v2.12. So a 32 bit win 7
machine needs at least 3GB, and an edit to
a boot control file to enable large memory size
addressing.

Other than that, we have had no problems, except
for a couple of people who posted on the tech
support forum with ntdll.dll (windows config related)
crashes which we weren't able to solve (we usually
can work through to get anybody running).

Hi, welcome:

patch 2.12 is linked in the announcement post here
in this forum; it is the latest, though dare I stick my
neck out and suggest it, we may be only days away
from issuing v2.13, we're just getting the patch installer
ironed out.

Please read the installation notes in the top of the
announcement post for 2.12, there are many points
to be aware of before installing (such as the points
I've made in the post immediately above this one).

We do have another website at bob2wov.com, but
these forums are where you can talk to us.

thank you for your answewr, i bought a new pc but still windows 7

so, based on your answer, i will install multiskin too.

one last question (i am not native so i need to be sure to understand):

1) i first install v.212 (without terrain and multiskin, is that right ?)
2) then i install v2.13 on top of it

3) then i just install the last terrain and multiskin (without having installed the "terrain" and "multiskin" related to v2.12, is that right ?)

i wish you and everybody an happy new year !

Yes, we don't have a full installer issued for 2.13 yet, just the
parts as beta, so it is basically added over top of 2.12. When the
2.13 official release happens, shortly, it will no longer be necessary
to load 2.12 before 2.13. That may be as soon as a couple of weeks,
conservatively.

So, yes, install v2.12, and the 2.11 multiskin, then add the beta
parts over this (the total of these is about 50MB, compared to
around 475MB for the full 2.12 plus multiskin).

Regarding the 2.13 beta parts:
Note that 1) as it is beta bits only, the version will continue to
display 2.12; and 2) it is not the entirety of 2.13, we have done
a lot of work this year to update the documentation (manual, and
help files), and have added a few other odd bits, so you will definitely
want to load the official 2.13 over the beta when it is released
(shortly).

I just bought it.
Having a hell of a time with this sim.
Can't take off after about twenty goes lol.

The plane wants to somersault all the time.

I thought my axis were in reverse,my throttle was.

I can't see the axis in this sim to tell if they are working right.

Any tips?

II have prop pitch on low, flaps down.

The plane is very finecky and I suspect not like real life otherwise half the air forces would have died just taking off haha.
