Ah, looks like you're going right through Thanet. If so, and
if you haven't already done so, please check the historical
aerial imagery available in Google Earth with the "historical
imagery" button. Things that would want attention are the
downtown buildings at Ramsgate harbour, the main central
Ramsgate railway station and railyard buildings and sheds,
and the civilian air field (good pics of the latter here:
http://oldramsgate.blogspot.ca/2007/02/ ... neous.html ),
the first two as they are the major features visible at distance,
and the latter as the airfield was a "satellite" for Manston during
the BoB, and can be a target, similar to Old Sarum Field, which
can draw misguided enemy fire away from the more major
fields nearby.

The late lamented object catalog provided a great array of
helpful images of the many oddball little items which Ben built
to decorate such urban landscapes, including a variety of
railroad objects, locomotives and rail cars. Ben did his own
placements at Brighton, and a look there can reveal the
sorts of things that are available.

Howzit PV,

I purposefully left the railyards and port area clear because I figured that historically accurate object placements would go there.
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

I created a screenshot catalogue of object templates that I had built, and had recently considered doing the same for shpbin objects. Maybe its a good time to start some thing like this, before placing any rail and port objects.

IF YOU HAD THE ORIGINAL RR OBJECTS FOR BOB2 AND UPDATED WITH RR OBJECTS FOR BOB2 VERSION 2, YOU MUST DELETE THE "glen trees.txt " FILE IN OBJECTADDS, OR YOU WILL HAVE DOUBLE TREE OBJECTS, RESULTING IN A POSSIBLE FPS DROP IN CERTAIN AREAS.

glen trees.txt and RR trees.txt contain identical objects.

This is the mod mentioned removing the 2d trees to aid potential addition of 3d trees. Makes things look worse as it is, but can be updated with better blending and maybe a new forest floor texture rather than re-using the airfield grass.

Howzit Boreas,

It does look a bit weird when you clone the same grass colour on each tree grouping. I think you probably need to extend the field texture on which the trees are situated by cloning that field texture, instead of just cloning that one grass colour. Then clone hedges to separate the fields that were seperated by trees. I don't know if all of that made much sense.

Nice to hear from you again. :)

Thanks for the steer rogeroger. Will attempt to minimise margins between fields to hedge or tree line width. Hadn’t thought of adding more hedges :D.

Further thoughts on the 2d trees. Replacing only some or most of the main areas seems more do-able and would produce the most effect for the amount of effort so I’ll see how that approach works out.

Howzit Boreas,

When you first took this on I thought it would be a lot of work. I think what you are suggesting, using a bit of discretion , is a good route to take.

Yes, i would say going after the biggest dark patches would have the
most effect, so that areas of repeating tile won't be so obvious, as
well as not forcing their way into places they don't belong, allowing
us to have more control over where trees appear.

A small update on removing the 2d trees. I edited the img006 tile extending adjacent fields and adding hedges using v7 of my ground texture mod. Next maybe I'll look at tile 017 but extending different fields. Will probably post the layers for these so they might be adapted for any ground textures based on 2.12. http://www.mediafire.com/file/qp3f2b975 ... es_mod.zip

It most likely means trees appearing in grain fields north over Dover of course, so not very usable at this point.

looking forward to your new update rogeroger!

Nice editing! I like the cloned hedges and vibrant greens. I would clone in the original stock light field colours, they would work better with the vibrant greens imho. I look forward to seeing this completed. It's great to have more alternatives to the bland stock textures. The trees can always be relocated,no problem.

This update is for Bob2 version 2.13

It contains a few models that hopefully complement Pv's great rework of the Manston area. PV suggested that I build a few modular harbour sections to be placed on top of the 2d harbours. I have placed these at the following areas:Ramsgate,Margate,Broadstairs,Littlehampton,Newhaven and Portland.

RAMSGATE
Image

Manston Civilian airfield has a terminal buiding and hangar.
Image

Ramsgate and margate railyards have railway platforms and a large shed. These have been used elsewhere as well.
Image

Objects have been placed at Margate, Ramsgate, Maidstone, Hornchurch, Rochester, Bognor, Littlehampton, Worthing(wip) and Brighton(wip).

ROCHESTER
Image

Objects in TREES- Manston=IMG 0000-0001, 0005, 0008, 0009, 0017 folders have been cleaned up to accomodate Pv's rework. I dont use TREES- Manston=IMG 0000, 0002 and 0006 files for fps reasons and have not updated them. I have placed them in a backup folder in the objectadds provided. I may give these some attention at a later date.

I scanned the objectadds folder with a bob2 objectadds checker tool, resulting in the removal of a lot of duplicates, mostly from my previous work.

Pv reworked the terrain to accomodate my Westminster Abbey non-base model, so the dawn/dusk reflection problem is sorted.

For ease of installation I have provided my complete updated objectadds folder to replace your existing one. Other folders in the install contain all models and textures I have created to date, as well as Pv's terrain rework update, and are to be copied to existing folders. Overwrite where nesscesary.

GET IT HERE:http://www.mediafire.com/file/o2ysmng9h ... DATE_3.zip

I have relocated Hawkinge and Manston trees for the Altbob terrain. This will be uploaded later with a terrain update.

While getting back to texture editing I dug up this external RAF gun sound mod edited but with no eq from aviation gun audio but not exactly of the right gun type or rate of fire. http://www.mediafire.com/file/9q5mz8bx3 ... ns_mod.zip

Somehow I had missed until quite recently these videos where in quite a few you can hear the nice deep sounds from the airframe, probably due to attenuation of the higher frequencies over distance or otherwise because of some filtering. Safe to say the in-cockpit sound would differ.

Curtis P-40 Ground Firing Test (1941)
New P-47 Thunderbolt Fighter Passes Thrilling Tests! - 1943

Your higher contrast aircraft skins look like a defiinite improvement rogeroger.

Thank's Boreas :)

I'm just about ready to release some terrain sets. I've boosted the contrast of most of the buildings and multiskin aircraft skins. These should work nicely with the stock terrain as well.

A BOOSTED 109 SKIN .Just fxaa was used here
