A revision of my terrain editing templates, based more on the original 2.12 textures.

A new terrain colour mod. Changes to any specified areas can be made relatively quickly now. http://www.mediafire.com/file/9boaldk64 ... ure_v6.zip.

A small update to install over my v6 terrain. Hopefully the 3d trees are a better match, also revisised the blendmap stream.

Narrowing railway lines has caused rendering anomalies for me but I found if LANDSCAPE_TEXTURE_SIZE = 2048 is changed to 4096 in the bdg.txt file then any problems with the rails are minimal. Overkill maybe but frame rates seem to show this might only increase definition somehow and not unnecessarily use more memory. This is a bit narrower http://www.mediafire.com/file/5bl822xvk ... ailway.zip

Cheers attillla. I was going to add that even more realistically narrow rail is possible if the blendmap file is enlarged to 4096 resolution (eg http://www.mediafire.com/file/3ks6e8ztx ... l_4096.zip) but often this is not displayed correctly at least on my system where it can appear quite sharp or blury and distorted.

I slightly EQed the browning gun sound so it can be heard a little more over the engine. http://www.mediafire.com/file/9sxzwgg04 ... louder.zip

Hi Boreas.

As an experiment I decided to give the green fields a good tweak.

With enb\sweetfx

The terrain seems more in tune with the aircraft camo, a step in the right direction I think.

rogeroger,

I do not think that I ever told you how to generate a new Fartiles .bin file for your new terrain.
What this does is match up the far tiles in the distance to new terrain colors in the near tiles.

Here is the link with instructions:
http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtop ... t=Fartiles

Some folks have had difficulties doing this, but I have not. Boreas knows how to do this, also.

version 2.13 installer did'nt have an option for cockpit reflections on\off(I might be mistaken due to old age).

I Prefer flying with peripheral vision disabled, and clear cockpit glass, to better appreciate the terrain textures ,so I set about searching for the offending files and removed the effect.

This was my first foray into the wonderful world of GIMP and dds file editing.

There may be others who will receive more enjoyment from the sim with improved vision and clear
glass.

Please let me know If I'm overstepping the mark by making these files availabe,I know it's somebody's hard work that went into creating the cockpit canopy effects in the first place.

rogeroger,

Picture just above \/

I see long rectangular FRENCH type fields.
The BDG made these fields for mapping France, which is also a part of this Battle.
We tried to avoid having these French fields show up in England, however, it appears some French influence has washed upon your shores!
Please forgive this Frankish invasion.
Fear not! Ye shall not have to give up yer beer for wine!

Welcome to GIMP, PHOTOSHOP, or PAINTSHOP (which I still use) and DDS file editing, which I have not fully mastered.
WARNUNG! This art stuff can become addictive! :)

-------------------------------------------------

I hate bad visibility wherever I cannot see clearly!
There are some flight sim purists whom want canopy glass reflections, dirt, and other impediments to visibility, to simulate "real" flying conditions.
I am not one of these purists. I want to see clearly.

There is no Mark to overstep when someone modifies BoBII. Freak freely!

I adopted the canopy glass files that Boreas made, as stock issue for BoBII v2.12. He cleared them up better than they ever were before, without losing some cloudy reality.
Boreas is a master when it comes to fiddling with DDS files. He will give better advise than I can doing that artwork.

The old BDG guys have purposely tried to make BoBII easily editable for Players and Modders to change things.
The few remaining BDG guys have kept this Liberal, Progressive, Free Thinking philosophy that NOTHING IS WRITTEN IN STONE.

Make things better as you wish. Adopt & Adapt.

Yeah,tell me about it.

I decided to spend a half hour experimenting with greens on one dds file and a few hours later had modified the lot. It was fun though, time well spent.

I tried the greener textures and they look good. Some rain would make things greener so it's nice to have a choice. Not sure if the sweetfx filters are for dryer weather but haven’t had a look at those yet. Might try a few new tricks to see if some of the canopies can be made a bit clearer with more realistic visibility.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked them. :D

I live in a dryer climate ,so I prefer a greener looking BOB,besides, I find it to be more aesthetically pleasing.

Definitely give them a try.

I know sweetfx settings are pretty subjective, but I find that the main problem with the stock graphics is that they lack a bit of contrast(check the first two images). I personally find that sweetfx provides that contrast , plus a more realistic look which is improved by the bolder greens.
