Hi all

If you are interested in helping test the 2.12 campaign engine from the strategic/tactical side (no actual flying needed) pls feel free to chime in at:

Hey Heinkill,

I have been following your campaign with great anticipation. You have done an excellent job of demonstrating the detail and excitement of the BOBII-WOV while keeping it fun and light-hearted! The combination of commander role with selective first person engagements is very engaging and really shows off what an amazing SIM this is!

I would love to hear more about how you actually setup your raids in the SIM. You have now had several raids that are broken down into smaller groups and have selective details that I cannot get in the Directives Screen.

* Do you ignore the directives screen entirely and Authorize raids on specific targets and then select your planes from the Tasks dialog? I do this occasionally but have been shy about making this my standard MO. I'm sure after a while it becomes second nature.

* Also, do you reroute your attacks most of the time? Again, I do this enough to get my escorts on track and to kill some of the more radical doglegs but I am just now exploring the impact of new routes to target on operations. Already it is a whole new level of detail to the campaign strategy for me!

If you ever feel inspired to do detailed tutorial on a single large strike setup, I am sure there are many here who would be thrilled!

Thanks again!

- John

Heinkill's interactive campaign is one of the best ideas ever! We follow every step on facebook (as should you, ahem!) If you care to write a brief post on how to function outside of the directives, we can share it.

Hi heinkill, today I found an interesting clip about BOBII Luftwaffe campaign that I'm posting the link below. It's nicely done and self explanatory. A great (promotional) video about BOBII's unique strategy feature especially for those unfamiliar with BOBII and tend to "judge the book by it's cover", i.e comparing it's graphics with today's latest games.
I suggest this video to be added to BOBII facebook page to introduce the campaign feature of the game to new visitors.

Cheers.

And silly me! I am sure I have watch ed ALL of the various tutorial videos at some time or another but did not recall this one:

Luftwaffe campaign: setting up raids

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDjkV57NKNA

It is Heinkill explaining exactly what I was asking about! It is amazing the amount of control you have as a commander to set up raids.

The only details missing are changing the actual Staffeln/Gruppe assignments which I believe we can can do in a limited manner.

And hopefully at some point the BDG will make takeoff times editable. That will be quite amazing!

Hi all

Just caught up with this thread sorry. As you note, have been busy with the interactive AAR for 2.12 on Simhq.

(It is not easy on that thread letting the 'General Staff' determine strategy! But they aren't doing too badly so far :P )

Most of the help you want to set up your own raids entirely is in the vid.

Yes, there is a facility to choose your own unit. I use it to pair less experienced units with more experienced ones, or get two experienced units. If you want a raid with two staffeln or gruppen, set it up with just one. Click on the raids incon (farthest right)' then click on the specific raid you just generated. Then go into TASK tab, click on ESCORT (or BOMBERS if that is what you want to adjust) and you will see which unit has been assigned. Under this there is a command 'NEXT AVAILABLE' and when you click this you can choose from any of the available units. It will then be added to your raid.

And hopefully at some point the BDG will make takeoff times editable. That will be quite amazing!

PS, you can adjust takeoff times.

In the raid screen, click on the raid you want to adjust, then go into the ROUTE tab. It will come up with all the waypoints. Here is where you can adjust both the altitude of your raid and the TIME ON TARGET measured at the INITIAL POINT. The game calculates takeoff time, according to what time you want the bombers over the target, which is the more important variable. So go to INITIAL POINT waypoint, and adjust the time there. You will see your takeoff time changes as you adjust the INITIAL POINT timing. This is the way to set up raids to arrive over the same target in waves, eg 30 mins apart, or send in the dive bombers and 30 mins later the level bombers.

Hi Heinkill,

Thanks for the responses! I figured out that you can adjust time on the Route:Initial Point screen right after I posted :?

Amazing how many parameters there are that can be adjusted. Just takes some practice and getting used to. The hardest thing for me was figuring out that I can change the specific unit assignments in the Task window: Adjust the number of Gruppen for escorts, adjust the percentages, go into the tabs and click on a Gruppen to reassign! A little futsy but it works!

One thing that seems to NOT work for me is assigning a secondary target in a raid. If I have 2 Gruppen of bombers they are both listed with the initial target under the Task:Bombers tab. If I click on the target name for a Gruppen, a 'Select Target?' dialog comes up with a pull-down menu of other local targets. If I select a different target and click OK the OK button greys out but nothing happens. If I close the dialog, nothing has changed. Have you ever seen this or figured out a way to overcome it??

Thanks!

- John

The only way I know to assign secondaries or split raids is via the directives screen.

I think that is correct. But it 'appears' that the designers intended to give the capability from the Task Screen. Hopefully in a future update it may be implemented!

Would also love to be able to assign alternate targets but I know that is a whole other can of worms

Go into the raid in the mission folder and open task, click on target and a box opens up with alternates -THIS DOESNT WORK - but if you click on one of these targets on the map unit is reassigned.
You can split gruppen into staffels or geshwader into gruppen and reassign.

In the game a ? on a box will take you to the manual, the ? on the alternative target box gives the above info.

I did a little test against Eastchurch, Sheerness and Dunkirk CH, the game reassigns the attached escorts amongst the raids (they all keep original raid number) I imagine this would be handy for a super raid on London 8)

Brilliant, it works!

Kind of amazing, I wonder why they never made the pull-down dialog work?

Thank you so much for the assistance!

It must have been a victim of Rowan going out of business , just left it with a link to a workaround.

I would be interested in testing. I mainly play the Luftwaffe side and really have enjoyed your AARs.

Hi Red

We are just about done for this release but will bear in mind for 2.13. We always need new folks willing to help out, thanks!

We hope to make an announcement on Sept 15, Battle of Britain day, with a firm release date for 2.12 so you will be able to try it yourself.
